1965 Penny That Weighs 2.7?

JimmyD Bedrock of the Community Canada 17948 Posts	Posted 03/15/2023 4:49 pm Your scale only goes to one decimal point (it really needs to go to at least two for an accurate weight) so between that, the mint tolerance of +- 2.3g and the fact it has probably lost weight due to some corrosion, it seems to be normal. I don't know the parameters but, .41 is minuscule and may fall within the reasonable weight parameters. The coin is pretty damaged so that may be the reason for the difference. If you've ever seen a roll of worn Mercury dimes (or any other denomination) beside a "fresh" roll, you'll see the profound difference in stack height. Report this Post to the Staff

Any chance it was struck on another type of coin or silver? Last question. should I clean it to see what's underneath the black?
