I recently bought a Barber half in fine condition and I found I'm smitten with them. I like them in VG to EF or $35 to $350 each. Mostly I like the vg and fine as most of them seem affordable compared to my other favorite coins.

What collector resources are there for barbers? Any definitive book or web site? I remember reading somewhere there is a barber club.

Awesome @Pmint1! I am currently trying to get a complete set in F-VF condition. http://goccf.com/t/438526

All these are resources I use:

Barber Coin Collector' Society - http://www.barbercoins.org/index.shtml
David Lawrence - Complete Guide to Barber halves - https://archive.org/details/compgui...half1991lawr
A Guide Book to Barber Silver Coins - https://www.amazon.com/Guide-Book-B...6/ref=sr_1_3

Thanks for those resources. The Barber coins are the only ones (other than Morgan's) I like the looks of in VG to fine. I think the design looks great with a little wear on it.

The sources @ericgreen posted plus BCCS journal archives are also here https://nnp.wustl.edu/library/publi...etail/511173 but only go through 2015. BCSS membership is $20/year and you get four quarterly journals with stuff you won't find published anywhere else.

@pmint1

The members above all listed solid resources, but I'll add one more: your local coin show! Have you been to any lately? I hit the Bay State Coin Show here in Mass every year. They have 100+ dealers many of whom specialize in US silver. Some specialize in Barbers and other early series. Nothing better than chatting with a specialist in person! I bet you have a good sized show in your area too. Check it out.

People like to talk about challenging numismatic endeavors.

If you want a truly challenging numismatic endeavor, try putting together a good-looking set of Barber half dollars in VF-EF condition.

Heck, even finding full-rim Good coins that haven't been cleaned or damaged is getting more and more difficult every day. It probably doesn't help that every time silver spikes, more and more get dumped off for melting down.

I agree about circulated Barbers being good looking coins. I don't know of any particular resources other than the ones listed above. I've found the best thing to do is set up eBay searches and religiously check auctions "ending soonest", especially late hours and weekdays. I've picked up a lot of nice VG-Fine Barber coins that way for less than Greysheet bid.

I went back and graded my lone barber at VF 30. I'm going to try to assemble a collection of "darn near close" to full liberty. I bought four from my favorite dealer from fine+ to full EF 45. I'm going to try to go fine plus with my set. My first love are Morgan's. I'm only missing a 93-s and the 87/86 overdates. I've been surprised at how much I like the Barbet halves but they are really similar in design to Morgan's.
