This is a 1979 nickel that is stuck to a 1980 penny. The only part of the penny that you can see is "80 D" just barely. Is it possible it was made this way or did someone do this themselves? Thank you so much in advance!

Hi and ... Stick around here for as much learning on coins as you want!

This item you are showing us was a real nickel and real cent that someone smashed together post mint to possibly make a curiosity. All of the nickel side has bad post mint damage with the discoloration and large scratches. Folk out there can do some very strange things to coins

I agree...homemade. Nothing in the minting process can do this.

Thank you all! I appreciate your replies. I was wondering, is there a book or pdf on all the various coin errors for each year for US coins? I've looked but haven't had much luck finding one. I'm a total amateur when it comes to coins but I love looking at them under magnification. Thanks everyone!
