2017 D Quarter, Grey With Subdued Shine, Normal Edge. Improperly Annealed?

I have seen comparable examples of other quarters upon which there is some debate about whether it is caused by PMD or a true error or improperly annealed or something else. The edge seems completely normal to me. I haven't seen this color on this particular Ozark Riverways Missouri which is highly detailed and picturesque. I found the Utah quarter pictured below online was described as "gun metal" color and that's how I'd describe mine as well. Report this Post to the Staff

My personal opinion is that odd coloration should be assumed to be from chemical/environmental exposure rather than improper heat treatment by the mint.
