This is the first gold coin I purchased. I got it in 1991 when I was in Saudi Arabia. I was looking through the gold market and came across this in a shop. I had to buy it. Needless to say the spot price was very low back then. It got me interested in gold bullion which later moved into pre-1933 gold coins. Still one of my nicest coins.

Beautiful coin! While I had a few AGE including the 1986. I consider those more bullion, my first Numismatic gold coin was one I wanted as soon as it came out. I passed in 2016 as the price was crazy and so in 2018 when the prices dropped I kept checking my LCS and he got one in summer. Its still one of my favorite coins.

1872 Sydney Mint Half Sovereign, AU-55 condition, acquired in 1963.
It was sold in 1976, as part of a complete Australian gold type set, comprising 17 sovereigns and Half sovereigns, which also included an Adelaide Pound.
About 80 ancients including two Roman gold coins were sold at the same time. The money raised about 15% of the value of our first home. Mortgage paid off 7 years later, partly assisted by the sale of the coins at the start of the mortgage.
The avatar coin was first gold coin start of the current collection. It came from Spinks (dealers in London), in 1983.

, thats a nice attractive example! I bought my first gold coins from Jack Beymer back around 2002. By today's prices they were very cheap! In the 20 years after that I built a nice U.S. gold type set, complete sets of modern and classic gold commemoratives, almost complete Dutch 10 guilder and British sovereign type sets, and a decent assortment of certified gold bullion. That's all been sold in the past couple years as I've narrowed my collecting focus. I made about 9 business trips to Qatar between 2013 and 2016, and visited the big gold market in Doha a couple times. Never bought anything there, however...

My first gold "coin" was one of those Mexican gold "miniatures" that were popular in the 1970s and 1980s. Tiny, 8k gold, and of course not actually a coin.
My first actual coin made from actual gold was an Australian half-sovereign, 1911-S. Paid $95 for it back in 1995.

When I started collecting coins as a kid, you needed a Bank of England Licence to purchase gold coins. The Bank of England didn't give licences out to schoolkids! It was only in the early 1970s that gold licences were abolished, and I saved up my pocket money to buy a 1964 gold sovereign from my local coin shop in 1973 for the princely sum of £8! I bought a French 20-franc Rooster coin for around £20 in 1979 and that was my second gold coin. My third was an Edward VII half-sovereign that I found metal detecting.

My first gold coin was a 1989 1 oz. Canadian Maple Leaf (purchased in 1989). I've since then replaced that one, over time, with many more from other countries and US. My fav's now are our St. Gaudens.

Not purchased but given to me by my Dad in 1980. It is no longer BU since I handle it from time to time. Love those older Nugget/Kangaroo coins!

The first gold coin in my collection was purchased 20 years ago, in March of 2003. I bought this AU-58 1926 quarter eagle for $214 from Acropolis Coins of Morgantown WV. I liked it so much that I completed the set in seven months, mostly thanks to the old online auction site Teletrade. Sorry about the picture quality.

My first gold coin was this Swedish 20 kronor from 1873, 8.96 g of 0.900 gold. It is from the first series of coins in the new denomination "kronor" which replaced "riksdaler" in 1873.
