Hi. I recreantly got into coin collecting and searching through coins with my youngest son and we discovered this bicentennial quarter and wondered if there is doubling on the letters in Liberty, esp the E and a double strike in the back?

*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark to Title. It's very important to have in the title. ***

@gem, first welcome to CCF. Second, while I applaud you for being through with your photo documentation, that is easily five times as many pics as are needed. With that said, I'm seeing some deterioration in the letters which is often indicative of a coin having been struck with a tired die.

I agree to many photos. what I see it is Strike Doubling due to the deterioration of the Dies.

On this quarter there is Die Deterioration Doubling. (or DDD). nice catch on seeing it though.
also I like the quality of your images, (just not so many on the very first post of a new topic. Usually we will ask if more is needed.
Thanks for joining CCF and 'see' you soon.

Gemmi8,
When you think you have found a double die you need to go to these sites:http://varietyvista.com/
http://doubleddie.com/
Then let us know the attribution number of the coin. Start out with 4 photos, one full coin pic obverse and one full coin pic reverse as well as one or two close ups where and when needed.

An easy way to get immediate answers as to whether you have a doubled die, RPM, or OMM. Find them all listed here:
www.varietyvista.com

Scroll down, find the e-book for the coin you are looking for and take the links.

If yours is not listed then you probably have non-collectable doubling such as Machine Doubling or Die Deterioration Doubling (search these topics on this forum and at error-ref.com).
