Hello, I just found a coin on my mother is law's home, and she said she was keeping as it should be valuable. The coin is a Liberty 1797 7 stars x 6 Stars. I did a little research and didn;t find anything about that specific coin, so I believe is fake. Abything I need to make sure to let her know that the coin has no value?

What denomination is this coin supposed to be? how large is it, compared to other coins? Quarter, Dime, Nickel, or cent?

I'll bet most counterfeiters would be embarrassed by this coin!

@app, first welcome to CCF. Second, here is a link to images of what think that this Dollar coin purports to be: https://www.ngccoin.com/coin-explor...3/1797-1-ms/I'd be interested to know if a magnet is attracted to this piece (it shouldn't, but some fakes are).

Among other things the font of the date is nowhere near correct.

That is a horrible fake. Only buy these PCGS or NGC and from a reputable dealer.

I didn't want to say anything since I don't know much about these early coins, but isn't the reverse completely wrong anyway? From what I looked at, the "large eagle" wasn't used until 1798 dollars, but I wasn't sure if it appeared earlier on another denomination. Regardless, this is an obvious counterfeit for many other reasons.
