Nice coin. Please post new pics if you remove the coin from the 2x2. 2x2s can get in the way of good photography. Better images are needed for a proper grading assessment. And yes, flatten or better yet remove those existing staples--high risk of coin scratching.
the holder looks like its in bad shape so i'd at least replace that. that shot of the obv has me shuddering with those staples. take new photos when you remove it and do not use any overhead light. watch the glare, its obscuring the surface to see if anything is going on.
the obv looks to have considerably more wear than the rev. the 84(S) should be above average in strike in upper grades but in this case the obv looks around XF45 but the reverse looks around AU53 so something is off here. repost it so we can maybe discern what it is.
I've been collecting for a couple years... Favorite Coin's are Standing Liberty quarters, Working on my type set | Coffee, Corvettes, Coins & the CCF what could be better?
Weclome to CCF! There's are several ways you can test your coin to see if it's genuine. Two easy ways are using a magnet, on the edge of the coin if it sticks good to a magnet it's not genuine 90% silver. The other is a ping test. Coins sound at a specific frequency when lightly hit on the edge, hold the coin either with your soft gloved finger or buy a ping tester. Be careful not to scratch the coin when you test it. Be careful where and who you buy coins from. There are fakes out there. Or if you have a local coin store you could take the coin there, they should have an electronic metal tester.
I'm forever amazed at "some" counterfeit coins and I did spend 20 minutes comparing the OP's coin to "real" 1884-s Morgans for my own knowledge gaining. The Counterfeiter got lazy... Not even the slightest hint of the Designer's Initial "M" and the hair tufts near where the intial should be are not even close to accurate. Missing much detail. There's certainly other things to note as well.
