I have this Buffalo nickel (1937, in an old PCGS green rattler holder graded MS66):

It is said that often, coins graded in these slabs would grade one point higher if removed and put in a more current PCGS holder. Considering today's PCGS pricing:

I am tempted! But I don't think it would grade any higher than MS66.

And if it graded MS68, PCGS is going to charge me a percentage of the estimated value... Besides, I would need to find a buyer willing to pay the PCGS price...

Of course, it is also possible that it would get downgraded.

I think I'll leave it alone. What do you think?

I would leave it as is. There's no guarantee that you'll get the same grade again.

You probably won't even be able to tell the difference between your 66 vs a 67. Plus I like the old holder better than I do a 1937 Buffalo nickel.

EDIT: Remember PCGS price guidelines are not what people are actually buying for.

Leave it be.....nice old holder is the plus.
Chance of getting a 68 out of it....slim to none
Submit for upgrade to a 67 not that cost effective IMO

If you are planning on keeping it for your collection, I would leave it as is.
If you would like to sell it, I would suggest sending it in to CAC stickering. If it stickers (green) you have increased the likely price you will receive on the sale (possibly 30-40%). If it gold stickers, you have a winner for sure. If it doesn't sticker, it is good information to have.

Leave it as-is. Perhaps try to get a CAC sticker on it.

Thanks to everyone for their replies!

The difference in price between MS66 and MS66+ doesn't seem to justify the submission price, so I think it will just stay like it is.

Having it in the old green rattler holder is enough of a plus, I think.
