why are the new Lincoln Cent rolls selling for more money if they are in mint rolls than if they are in bank rolls. when you buy the roll of coins aren't you buying the coins it seems to me people are paying more just because the roll is from the mint.

i don't understand if I buy a roll of uncirculated coins I am buying the coins not the wrapper I don't care what it came in.

Maybe folks are more confident that they are getting uncirculated 2009 pennies if the roll is from the mint rather than from a bank.

It only matters if you don't plan on opening them, pristine mint packaging is what the big deal is!

Rolls from a bank are not guaranteed to contain 50 of the new centes. They have been mixed rolls.

I had a friend who thought his roll from the bank was ALL the 2009 Lincolns. Wrong. Mostly, yes. But not all.

One main reason I can think of is that the collector of bank-wrapped rolls might believe that some of the coins can be in a higher average grade and "unsearched" if bank-wrappped (from a Mint bag). Also, there's the possibility of finding valuable errors that would likely not have been overlooked by someone outside of a bank wrapping the coins.

I think people just like the mint packaging; it is more limited in supply.

I don't understand the attraction &/or the higher price of mint rolls either, but I collect coins not packaging. I think it has little (or nothing) to do with the quality or quantity of the coins in the roll. It's the perception that the mint wrapper makes it a distinct type of collectible.
