David Lange's book says that one variety of the 1918-S "shows an interesting crack through the date that progressed to become a Retained Cud"... I guess that's what I have here...

That die was in rough shape, but I love it! Looks to be the start of another die crack leading to another(!!) Retained Cud going from 9 o'clock to 11 o'clock

I too like that broken nose and messed up lip. Looks like he was in one really big fight.

This is a great example of a die break. I've seen examples of 1918-S nickels with major lamination issues but not with such a prominent die break. The Buffalo series has a good many error varieties, and yours is a prime example ... certainly more noticeable than a three-legger!
