@timsumrall - that's great, thanks! Way better photography than I can pull off at the moment. And I do see the differences distinctly.
I generally set aside all my 2009's to go through so I might be able to catch those satins but not sure I'd do that for the other years that have the different finishes. Guess I'll just have to pay more attention (although the satin hit rate is probably miniscule in circulation, right?).
Thanks again.

@CelticKnot, (although the satin hit rate is probably miniscule in circulation, right?)... satin hit rate is like zero to none in circulation; the satin finish only applies to US mint sets from 2005 to 2010. So odds of someone paying the Mint $30 for mint set and spending the satin finish pennies at candy store is very rare!

Hi everyone! I'm new here but specialize in collecting Lincoln's and my PCGS registry set is listed #18 with PCGS. I'm not bragging, as it took years and anyone can do it if they shop smart.
WE were talking about these Satin Lincoln's that are bronze and made between 2005 and 2010. They remind me a lot of the SMS cents made in 1965 through 1967 and also the 1931S Lincoln. Let me try to explain.
I say this because the SMS Lincoln's are more readily available today than the business strikes that command a much higher price in the same grade --say MS66 RED, but the SMS coins had much higher mintages. For an example, the 1966 SMS had a mintage of 2,200,000 coins. Also the rarest SMS year was the first year (1965) but the Satin Lincoln 2005's are very common, as it it the later year 2007, 2007D, 2008, and 2008D Satin lincoln, from both the Philadelphia and Denver mints, that are the most costly today, with the 2010 and 2010D being a close second. I believe the later Satin year coins will be the most valuable 50 years from now -- unlike the SMS Lincolns.
Next, the 1931S is not a rare coin, and had very very low mintages like the 1909S VDB, but the 1931S RED is available for around $500 in PCGS MS65 while the 1909S VDB is fetching 4-5,000 for the same PCGS MS65 RED grade. The 1931S only truly becomes a rare coin when it hits MS66 or MS67 RED. This is why I suggest you but at least MS67 RED Satins and I an show you how to get them cheap in PCGS holders.
I know many of you are familiar with Teletrade on the net in Newport Beach California right? If not google it. They have weekly auction for 30 years now. Now, this is not an ad for TT (LOL), but I have seem these Satin Lincolns go for less than $10-12 dollars in PCGS Satin 67 RED!! Granted, they will have an ocasional 68 or even a 69 grade, but they are much rarer and more expensive. But, I saw a PCGS Satin 67 Red slab go for $12 last week and there is a PCGS Sain 2006D that did not even sell! They show the 2006D being out up for sale again January 6th in their auction #3411. There is a $8 minimum commission they charge buyers or $17.5 (whichever is more) but it cost $20 to holder these coins through PCGS alone!
One can get very good deals on all coins on TT and I just wanted to let the forum know about it. I do suggest Satins in PCGS 67 or better, and to stay away from the NGC slabs, as we compared three NGC 2010 Satins in grade Satin 66 with three PCGS Satins from the same years (2010 and 2010D 3 each for a total of 6 coins) with three PCGS Satin 65's and the PCGS 65 graded coins were better than the NGC Sain 66 coins die to heavy spotting being allowed on the NGC coins. Now this is not true with all Lincoln's as I will but most NGC 1982 7 coins variety Lincolns (4 large date and small date, as well as copper and zinc from P mint and three from D mint.) and the NGC were in many ways better!
Good luck and I hope to hear more from everybody!

Sorry, TT charges $8 buy commission, or 17.5% not dollars, but it is still cheaper than $35 to $100 that we see on ebay.

Cool set, I went the quick route and bought the mint sets, I figured I'd also put the satin sets together for all the other denominations. Most mint sets are still pretty inexpensive if you have a need for the other coins. For whatever reason, the 2008 was the priciest.

Very nice set!
Interesting how therer are 18 coins there, and a Dansco cent page will hold 36 coins... So a complete set of satin and business strikes will fill a Dansco page perfectly. Pondering...

Wow, great collection torn&frayed. I'm sure the pictures don't do it justice, but they still look amazing. Mine are all separated in a couple of albums. This makes me want to put them all together now, haha!

Quote: My Dansco including all Satins and all 20 2009 Lincolns. The 2012's are in there now, this is an older photo. The photos do not do justice to as to how great these pages and coins look. Every coin is pristine. Well done! That is a nice looking custom album.
