Reign of Qadir ended when Sher shah suri subdued Malwa in 1542. After this, Malwa was under Suri rule until 1555.AD. After the defeat of Sikandar Sur, Baz Bahadur (1555-1561.AD) became the ruler of Malwa. His rule remained until Akbar conquered Malwa in 1561.AD.

This variety of coins is still debated on their ruler of authority. Some prefer to attribute this to Baz Bahadur while some others believe them to be issues of Muhammad Bin Muzaffir between 1555 and 1557.AD.

Stumbled on this post the other day and found it very informative. I have attached a picture of a coin that I am having a hard time identifying. It looks a lot like a Malwa 1/2 Tangka and seems most similar to that of Mahmud II, but there are a number of discrepancies. Am not sure if it is a mint mark issue or something more than that. Thoughts appreciated!

Congratulations! You have done an excellent job. It is Mahmud-II (916-937.AH) for sure. The date 917.AH is clearly seen on the bottom left corner of the upper image you posted. That fixes it. Shall try to annotate the picture shortly. Thanks

I have tried to annotate the coin as far as I can. Along with that I have posted image of a coin from my cabinet for your reference. This one is also posted on page no. 4 of this thread (Coin ID.No. Mal# 071- seen on the top left corner of the image). That is an issue of 918.AH.

@drnsreedhar, thank you for your help and in particular the annotations. I did see your coin on the earlier posting, but was thrown off by the different symbol in the middle left of the right image. Your coin has a flower like shape, while mine appear to have what looks like a "w" with a line above it...

Such minor variations are common. They signify only mint dates or masters. The symbol like "w" with a stroke above has been documented for silver coins of years 923 and 924.AH. That mark might have skipped documentation for the year 917.AH. You can have the reference in "The coins of the Indian Sultanates" by Goron and Goenka.
