A question.....

I gather from some comments here that PCGS will not give a clean grade to a lacquered coin. Question: if lacquer is expertly removed, will PCGS still reject it as some kind of cleaned coin?

There was a knowledgable poster here a couple of years ago, whose name I have forgotten, who was of the view that lacquer could be safely removed through evaporation using acetone in a pressurized vessel. Does anyone know if anything ever came of this idea?

I have heard of coins that were previously lacquered end up in problem-free holders. But it really depends on the coin and how well it was removed. Definitely a case by case basis.
