Pretty sure the S is much rarer too. Aren't there only like 2 or 3 of those known? The listing is awfully weird though; I'd expect that kind of rarity to have a much more famous seller. (He has 100% feedback, which is to say that he has one positive from April 2016, as a buyer.) It's probably some kind of scam, but I don't know enough about ebay to say any further. Will definitely be watching it later though!

First thing to check is the cert number. I would not bid on it though. Even the description doesn't jive. It reads AU50 and the slab reads AU53.Cert Number in description doesn't match slab in pic. John1

$2.67 for shipping. At that shipping price, they obviously don't plan on including insurance. "Run Forest, run!" What amazes me is not that there are sellers like this, it is that there are bidders. Quote: Certification: NGC Certification Number: 366928-001 Grade: AU 50 Year: 1943 Circulated/Uncirculated: Circulated Strike Type: Business Mint Location: Philadelphia I didn't know that Philly put an S mint mark on their coins. The cert number is wrong, the grade is wrong. It is hard to even see the listing for all the red flags in the way.

The good news is that another (the real one?) is listed with a BIN price of only $235K!

Sent him an email, I'd bet a dollar is goes ignored. Quote: I'd be willing to bid over 200,000 for this coin but I will need better pictures. I would also need one taken laying on today's paper.

The cert # doesn't match the coin? I'd expect ebay to take this down.

Just make sure that you know how to pick the copper plating on the fakes of these. Can't check the plating on this one, so you need to make sure that the slab isn't fake. You must know how to pick if the fake slab as well. You can have extremely good fakes made, if there is a profit of $1000's to be made. Somewhat of a pity that it is attempted to be sold via ebay, and not through Heritage or similar, where professional authentication of the coin and the slab that it is in, can be 100% trusted. Should be OK, but the buyer has no way of being 100% sure, and is thus compelled to take some risk, if a bid is submitted. Does Heritage have any price histories of copper 1943s Cents that they have sold?

Quote: Just make sure that you know how to pick the copper plating on the fakes of these. Many collectors aren't aware of it, but the mint did make some Copper plated Steel planchets as experimental pieces in 1943. Quote:1943 Experimental CentsThere are other known examples of experimental cents for 1943 including a Steel planchet coated with a combination of Zinc, Antimony, and Iron weighing 2.7 grams, and a Copper plated Steel cent weighing 2.8 grams. http://www.lincolncentsonline.com/E...20Cents.html
