Was curious.. I can't tell if this is damaged or an error coin. It is a 1967 Lincoln Penny.

Since the coin is out-of-round, I believe this is PMD, not an error.

Posts strike damage--appears to be the result of a crude attempt to encase the coin.

I agree on the PMD assessment. It is possible that it was a crude failed attempt at encasing the coin but unlikely.
