What Was The Last Date For Circulating US Silver?

At least I can say that my birth year 1966 is in fact the last
year that 90% Silver coins were produced for circulation in the U.S. .
(although those last 90% Halves, Quarters and Dimes produced were all dated '1964'!)

The 1966 Canada Prooflike Set is my favorite birth year item, four 80%
Silver coins!. That's the last year in Canada where you know that
the 10¢ to $1 coins are 80% Silver (without a test, that its!).

I also got myself a BU 1966 Australia round 50¢ coin at a coin show
last month. (Oz's last circulating Silver coin, also their only Decimal Silver coin made for circulation!)

I did find one 1970-D JFK Half from circulation as a kid. Back then,
you could get 40%'s in circulation, because the silver hunters only wanted the 90% Halves....
(back in the pre-Hunt Brothers days....)

All coins "except" half dollars ended in 1964 and half dollars were ended as of 1969. Of course the US Mint has produced Silver Coins on a regular basis since then, but only as collectables, not for circulation.
