Theres something about these coins that just floats my boat. I know the premiums are heavy but I find them beautiful and classic anyways. They are my favorite silver coin and I'll never sell a one, my low mintage gems most of all. They will be passed on as ghosts of old Mexico, the biggest producer of silver in the world. I know it sounds silly but I'm a bit of a romantic regarding my coins. This is why my collection travels the world despite its core being ASE's.

I always wanted to put a set of Libertads together but now, with the prices, it's no longer a feasible objective.

I've only got a few, bought back when they cost around $30. They're 2014. They are beautiful.

I like Libertads, I have 1 oz silver from every year except 1997,1998 and 2025. The 2025 1 oz BU has a very low mintage 300-500 depending what source you read. The Mexico mint hasn't released final mintages yet that I know of. Crazy, too expensive, I'll never get one. Most collectors won't have a full set.

@silverskunk, its OK to be a coin romantic! The aesthetic aspect of the coins is a real draw for me and many others.

Well I admit the prices and premiums are a bit crazy but the Bullion Houses and LCS's can't keep them on the shelves anyway. I made a mistake and sat on a 2021 in my bin and it went <poof> over night at Heros Bullion but I did pick up a 1982 "first year" and a 2020 "300,000 mintage".
I have no real plan, indeed I already have about a dozen and couldn't even say the years. But I know some are low mintage and I'll add these two to the collection. I need to do an organize since about once a month I like pulling out my foreign coinage to moon over. The Libertads most of all.
Just the 1 oz'er silvers. Such a dignified coin.

Just popped by my LCS yesterday looking to buy a few coins and it took an inquiry but they pulled out a few 1983 "onzas", the thicker, smaller Dia. 1 oz silver coins and they gave me a good price, basically the same as their 2026 ASE's for the duo, and I can't help but keep pulling them out to moon over. Ive trained my kid that yes silver is silver but that doesn't mean that all 1 oz silver is the same when it comes to worth and onzas/libertads are at the top of the food chain bullion-wise. As are ASE's as the most popular silver coin in the world. Keep them in good shape, preferably in BU condition, and odds are you'll get the best prices for them if ever needed to sell. I'm doing a lot of doing without now trying to build an intelligent stack while also trying to pick the occasional piece just because it floats my boat. Sure I'd like to own more gold but its not like they are giving the stuff away even tho its a pretty good time to buy gold. Silver is in a rut but I gotta believe it will break out because its in everyones interests for the oil and LNG market is going to stabilize. My LCS was +$3 over spot for rounds and I regret not buying 10 or 20 but I'm trying to avoid impulse buying and sticking to my plans and right now the plan is picking off the occasional silver coin while saving for more gold.

Did an inventory of my Libertads and onzas. I only have a few onzas and sadly none are 1983 when they had an insanely low mintage of them.
But I did have some interesting coins in very good "BU" shape including 4 1oz 1994's, mintage 400,000. 3 2014's 1ozers mintage 429,200., 2 2020 1oz mintage 300,000. 4 2017 1 oz mintage 636,000. 5 apiece 2023 mintage 613,000 and 2024 1 ozer's mintage 718,000.
There are some really tough years I doubt I'll ever see or ever be able to afford but since I need a new project, now that I fleshed out my 1st 1/2 of the 20'th century project, I figure why not have some fun and see what I can pick off when I can.
I think I'll get back into MSD's as long as the prices aren't insane. I still need to center on bullion to leave my family but I want to have some numismatic fun as well.

You're not the only one drawn to the Onzas. I only have about 10, but one of them is apparently extremely rare and collectible. It's a 1991 Type 2 Small Onza. I paid $48 for it back in 2013. Today, I've seen them regularly sell for $1000. Wish I had that kind of luck with my other silver coins.
