i agree. I don't know how much a pizza costs these days. I can't remember the last time I ordered out for a pizza, I usually just make my own.

incidentally, I've mentioned the road bike... that was a score from a year ago. it rides great, but I decided it needs a better seat. there's nothing wrong with the current seat, it's in good shape, but it's one of those tiny skinny seats. I need a little more padding for comfort.

two days ago I found a seat that someone left/abandoned at the beach, atop the retaining wall but hidden by the beach grasses. it looks practically new. I nabbed it & brought it home on sunday, so i'll see if I can get it fixed onto the road bike. it looked like it would fit.

not much money to be found lately, but a number of good 'stuff' scores... backpack, thermos, pizza... getting the bike roadworthy was a plus after it sitting for a year... the backpack & thermos look kind of pricey. I use the backpack for schlepping laundry. I haven't had a reason yet to use the thermos.

Hondo, I'm pretty sure I never mentioned these, so...

i discovered the new-looking gallon-sized metal thermos with insulating wrap on a curb in the parking lot of a burger joint late one night weeks ago, still mostly full of ice-cold water. I took it home, emptied it, washed it out & cleaned it & stowed it away with my bug-out backpack and emergency food stuff. it has a braided para-cord handle and a tiny compass on one of the clips. probably a thermos for hiking/camping. metal, so it can be put in the freezer overnight and loaded with ice water in the morning, having ice-cold water for the day.

about a week later I spotted the backpack standing on the sidewalk against the outside wall of Walgreens. I saw it, but didn't investigate it. the next night when I rode through it was still standing there, but it had been opened and some clothing was sticking out the top. curiosity piqued, I investigated it. it appeared to be a vacation pack that had been abandoned or forgotten. it looked pretty new, didn't smell bad, but the clothing inside was small and garish. I thought about it for a minute... still sitting there after more than 24 hours = fair game. finders keepers, losers weepers, I guess, so I dumped the contents onto the sidewalk, stuffed the now-empty pack into my basket and rode away. when I rode through the next night all of the clothing was gone.

interesting stuff... road bike, backpack, thermos, pizza... what is the universe preparing me for?
