I'm not a nickel guy but wanted a nice respectable and representative set of War Nickels. Picked up this set which came in today.

A little toning on a couple, don't think I've got any full steps, but I really don't know what that would mean, some steps appear 80%.
They were advertised as Uncs, not sure if they are or not, but look good enough for me.

How did I do?

I like the set. It's probably MS-62/MS-63 average. I also don't see any that are full steps, but most have pretty good detail.

How did you do? That depends on the price you paid of coarse. If the measure of how you did was to simply get a good BU set of War Nickels you did fairly well.

I am not an expert and my grading is rather personal as I see them,
they may be better or worse than I think they are.
Here's my guestimations.

1942 P = MS63-
1942 S = MS64
1943 D = MS64-
1943 P = MS63
1943 S = MS63
1944 P = MS64+ die clash
1944 D = MS65-
1944 S = MS64-
1945 P = MS64
1945 D = MS63+
1945 S = MS65-

- meaning maybe shy of that grade
+ meaning slightly better than that grade

Nice set. I don't like carbon spots on War Nickels.Others have no problem with them. I feel carbon spots drop the coin in mint state value but don't take away from the detail grade. None have full steps but I have seen weaker detail in complete sets like yours. I bet these look wonderful together in an album. Not a thing to be ashamed of and room to upgrade over time with patience. Thanks for posting the good images.

TNG ... hoping that is what we call him now ... is being very humble in his reply.

He is an expert on the series and I suggest you accept his valuable opinions ...

I tend to agree with TNG ... none of the coins shown rise above MS64 ... and none are Full-Step Jefferson.

That said ... these appear to be lovely coins and a wonderful start to a Jefferson war set.

Thank you all, appreciate it!

Paid $65, I think I got a good bargain.

Was going to put them in this, but maybe I'll get a capital holder or something else. Will the plastic cover on this damage them? Any suggestions?

Jim

Oh, for $65 you did great. Don't put them in that thing. Put them in an album if you have one or get that capital holder.

The plastic sleeve on holders like that often contain PVC and will ruin your coins.

I love MS War Nickels, so much different and nicer than the circulated one's.
Definitely a good purchase
