..and I just assumed they'd all be P minted coins ... t'was a nice surprise.

About a month ago, I scored a really nice set of Lincoln cents off ebay for 99 dollars. It was missing just 9 coins from the first 3 decades, and nearly every coin from 37 forward is red....it has the 70S small date and the 72 DDO to boot. I didn't have a single Lincoln Cent at that point, Well, that's sure changed.

I am going to pick this up at the post office a little later today. My set will be just 4 coins short. The 09-S, 09-S VDB, the 14-D, and the 31-S.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/23069374652....m1439.l2649

The set actually has 4 semi key dates in it, and I only need the 14-S and 31-D from it. I'll probably swap a few out as condition upgrades to my set, but I'm going to blow this back out after swapping the 14-S for a 14-P, and the 31-D for a 31-P. I will likely swap my 15-S for the one in this set, and will keep whichever of the 22-Ds is better, the one in this date set or the one in my whitman classic album.

It'll go out the door with a 15-S and a 22-D in it though. I think I will probably take a couple discolored coins out of the set before I sell it, and replace those with better specimens. The 26 is especially ugly, but there are several that need swapped out to make this a decent set.

I put a huge lot of 681 wheaties up, and in 3 days ... only 3 lookers. It's a lopsided lot, with over 10 rolls from 1909-1940 and just 160 coins from 1941-58. I may get stuck with all of them

I didn't mean to get into the Wheat penny business when this started, but I'll probably have to break the big lot into smaller offerings.

You went from rags to riches, as far as wheats are concerned, in a hurry.
Took me about a year to put my set together and it's still missing "the one"
but I just can see spending that much money on a coin with nearly a half million (mostly survived) mintage.

I got the set ... and kept the 14-S, upgraded my 15-S, plugged in the missing 31-D, which is a real nice coin, which brings us to the 22-D.

The 22-D that I stuck in my whitman classic album, and I noticed it at the time too ... fits a wee bit loosely in the album. I took the 22-D from this date set, and it's noticeably larger in diameter. I think the smaller one was an "encased" cent jewel. The reverse shows signs of buckling as well. I never stopped to consider that putting a penny in a slug of aluminum and staking it in place ... would reduce the diameter of the coin, but I believe that's what has happened to this one.

I'll post some pictures of the 2 1922-D coins side by side after I upload them to imgur.

Here's the 2 1922-D coins, side by side. Followed by the lot of 4 from the date set. I actually ended up putting all 4 in my set.

I was indeed thinking about listing it here on CCF after I replace some of the nasties with no problem coins. the 1914 and 31 issues will be philly issues now, though.

I can iprove the overall quality of the rest of this set, but I can't make that 22-D fit that hole without shimming it. The and 15-S date will remain. The 15-S I kept from this set was only marginally better than mine.

Every coin from 37-> is BU RD
AND 70-S SD
AND 72DDO
AND has some semi keys from the earlier dates.

Assuming ave circulated for the early coins and high end circ for the 72DDO and MS-60 for the 70-s

I think you picked up somewhere around $800 worth of coins for $99 if I'm understanding this correct.

Edit....oh wait, was that a year set.....still even then maybe $600

No, the date set was something I picked up to add to the set I bought. There are a very few dates that aren't red, but most everything from 1937 to 2003 is brilliant red, and the proof issues are included.

Here's the page where the red ones start...click the link to see the rest. They're not in any particular order I'm afraid. I intend to replace the small images with larger ones...but probably not today. It was a great buy by any measure. Here's a link that takes you to the image album.
