2007 Opinions

Whether you are a "coin collector" or not...I agree with amacs that the Presidential coins will be hot. While I'm not ecstatic about the design I think they'll be just as popular, if not more so, than the State Quarters.

Real "sleepers" are the Walking Liberty and the Franklin halves...U.S. ofcourse.

As for the popularity of non U.S. coins, I'll leave that question to our foreign members and more knowledgeable foreign coin collectors. I collect foreign coinage but, don't follow the trends.

Large coppers have been on the rise for a little over a year. I think they will probably hit a peak in 2007.

Eisenhower dollars have recently shown a rise in marketablity. I suggest keeping a close eye on these. I am unsure why this series is suddenly getting attention, but I think it's well worth watching. I don't know about the circulated coins, but I think the BU and proofs will continue to rise.

Seated coinage has also started to rise. I don't think it will rise quickly in 2007, but I would suggest keeping an eye on it and picking up some if this series interests you. I see a trend toward increased value in the next few years.

Franklins have been getting hot for a while. Definitely a series to watch and probably worth picking up some nice examples if the opportunity comes along.

The real sleepers, in my opinion, are civil war and hard times tokens. These continue to be extremely affordable though the mintages are very low on some of them. I always feel that these are worth purchasing when the opportunity arises. I don't know that we'll see a significant improvement in value this year, but I think we will in the next few.

Amac44, I hope you are right about Roosevelt's. Being a collector of them, I am holding out hope that they will rise in value. But, every year I am disappointed. I also agree with the Presidential dollars being very popular, as long as the mint does a lot of advertising, cause most people will never see any in commerce. At least with the State Quarters, they circulated, I have yet to see dollars circulate.

You may be right, I completely forgot about them. Although the Mint's web site only lists the date when the 1 ounce buffalo will be released and gives no information about the release dated for the fractionals.

in my opinion I think the Morgan dollars are gonna stay hot and the standing liberty will hit the roof.

I think the New Presidential dollars will be a success. Hoping there will more interest in the Peace dollars, as these are exceptionaly good buys right now.

Now that New Zealand has changed its coins, keep an eye out for any of the older style of coins dated 2005 (last year of issue). These could be a good investment.
