Just wanted to share this piece. It's a 2002 Cent struck over a 2001 Volunteer Dime. Both dates show although the volunteer dime was only struck in 2001 so the date didn't have to show to know that.

Wow! That is odd.

Great pic. I have tried to take a photo through the plastic case and GRRRRRR -- too much glare.

I do love the error coins.

Indeed t_y! So now we know where some of those coins ended up...

There is a story behind this coin (and others) from 2002, but it is one I do not intend to put in writing, most certainly not in a public forum.

Sounds sinister! The coin was obtained at public auction about 3 years ago. There are a lot of stories out there about error coins getting into the public. Most notably in the U.S. regarding dramatic proof errors in the 70's and most recently the hoard of missing edge lettering Presidential dollars.

The "MS-65" grade is... amusing. I guess we'd have to see it in-hand. Awesome error coin anyway!

Strange things seem to occur here and there. I suppose being in the right place, at the right time happens a lot at various minting facilities... I shall say no more.
