Quote: Newest Merc. Fantastic, blast white coin! One of my nicer Mercs. I'm far from an expert on grading, but this is a very strong MS64, if not better.
Excellent!

Thanks guys. I'm close to the halfway point of reaching my goal of completing a PCGS Mercury full basic set. There were a few of the rarer ones on ebay recently, but they sold for more than I expected. It will only get tougher from here, but patience is key.
It's been a long time since I posted anything. I've been collecting my US Large Cents slowly, but surely. It's just difficult to find ones that I like enough to purchase.
For quite some time I was trying to pursue perfection as close as my budget would allow. I finally realized that was impossible. And I also realized that major collectors included coins not meeting that perfection. Sometimes the top coins just are not available, no matter how much money you have to spend. And I am an everyday collector on a meager budget. So I now look for coins that still have nice eye appeal, though finding something with superb eye appeal on my budget is still quite a rarity.
My latest is an 1850 N-13 graded by PCGS as AU55 Twin Leaf Collection (EAC grading net VF35). This is a rarity 4 coin. And from my last copy ofCopper Quotes by Bobinson (15th Edition, is in the top five conditon census. I am sure there have been more added with higher grades since 1997, but no one has kept up with what Robinson and Grellman/Reiver built years back. Unless someone on this forum can point me to new information on Condition Census statistics for the individual Newcomb varieties.
It has a pretty impressive pedigree: Robinson S. Brown, Jr., Walter Dudgeon, Walt Husak, Jack Wadlington.
