Looks like a possible doubled die, like the bar on the columns. Something to look at to see what else in hand you might see? Did you find this in a BU OBW roll? If so you might find more in the roll/rolls. Interesting.

Found it in a plastic wrapped Brinks roll. I didn't see any other doubling on the coin but I will take another look.

O.K.,just took another look and the only thing I see is an anomaly called a Design Extension Dimples on UNITED STATES oF, http://traildies.com/id132.html . Coop, why don't you think it's a die gouge because that's the first thing that came to my mind. Thanks,
John1

It just looks too consistant to be a gouge. What is up with Abe's nose? Was it damaged or is it just that shape?

There are hundreds of DDRs for these 2009 cents, that's what it looks like to me.

I would hang onto this one. Keep an eye out for more of them. There maybe more of them in your area.

I plan on getting a few boxes of cents when I am home in Indiana...Tired of getting 75-85% D mint marks...I want more Phillys! And its kinda weird...I am a 24 hour drive from Denver...and only 14 from Philly...you would think I would have more Phillies down here.

Anyways...really cool find

One alternative could be to send it to CONECA. If it turns out to be a DDR, they might want to publish it - or allow you to publish it.

Here is a link:

I see this is an older thread. ((Posted 11/13/2011) But John1 was its author. So he is still around. But thinking on this a bit, nothing is actually copied. The die may have been altered a bit on that edge of the device making the coins now showing what were are seeing.
2009-Lp3-Reverse-Die-Gouge?
There may have been a clash that was polished out that affected those areas. (nose and side of top of building) You can see the same color on the overlay in those areas. Also not the area affected is taller than the side of the top of the building on the left side. The next area runs straight above that area of the building does not curve like hub doubling would make if it were a doubled die. The nose is also the same color and may have been enlarged by the isolated die polishing. The top of the hair also looks affected. So I'm leaning more to die polishing/abrasion as affected the die when these coins struck.
