I have about $200 of 20c to do a quick pass through prior to them going to the bank (did not check for 2008 gap). Then I have what I got from the bank this afternoon: $20 of 5c $20 of 10c $80 of 20c $100 of 50c 2200 coins to check Results will be posted...

Not so much noodling as sorting out an old box of 5c... but the result is the same - sore eyes!

He he I like your technique Steve, It's the same as my pile of coin in order of date.

great minds... he he he...
I find that if I just have the piles without the baggies I keep forgetting which pile is which, and there is nothing worse than thinking you are finished and start packing the coins away in a baggie for each year only to find some piles with mixed dates! then you basically have almost the same amount of work putting them away as you did sorting them in the first place! yes, that is the voice of someone who has experienced such a frustrating event... more than once I am afraid to say - that is until I worked out my baggie technique!

Done the 20c pile that I had to do a second pass through - they are now ready for the bank. During the clean out of my money cupboard I found more and more of them in bags. Will weigh them 2mrw to get a rough value.
Started looking at the 50c and realised that I little or no idea what I was looking for! That will be 2mrws homework.
I like the idea of the bags. I am going to have to try that out. The 5c is the coin I still have to crack. Too flipping small. At least it is cheap and you can have a lot of them for comparison.
Now maybe some 20c rolls to open prior to sleeps...

20c finds : 1966 : swirl gap x3 1974 : deep press 1981 : AUNC Half claw 1982 : UNC (very shiny) 1987 : New Zealand (always one!) 1995 : United Nations 50th aniversary 2001 : QLD 2001 : VIC 2003 : Making a difference 2008 : swirl gap x3 2010 : 100 years of the tax office 2011 : William and Kate There are two different types of 2008 swirl gaps - one nearly touching and the other a couple of mm. 1172 coins to go back to the bank. Not the best hit rate I have obtained, but still, a find is a find 5cents to be done today. I kept on finding bags of them in the cupboard. Will have to buy the big free standing magnifying glass that I saw in the coin shop. (Taking my two kids in there today for the first time - they already collect coins, or my money, but this might kick off!)

5c update : Nothing of note from the rolls. Have started to put them into bags. Time consuming though. Need a better system... Did not check for Cuds / die cracks, only dates. Nice work btw Nancy!

Nancy, I think I am going to have to look a bit closer. I have not found most of the things you have found. I have a few rim Cuds, a planchet flaw, 2 with a fair amount of detail missing on one side, but no die cracks. In the last $100 I looked through I found 1 1972 (in fairly bad shape) and 16 NZ coins. I think I might try to make a complete set of NZ coins, but I will have to find out which years make a complete set of issued coins.

I am going on a Cud hunt. Couple of glasses of red to ease the eyestrain and Big Bang Theory on TV. Wish me luck!
