Pictured here is my 1783 Unity States coin. I love this coin because of the history around the date and because it is called "Unity States."

I just sent it to NGC for grading and this is what I got back; "Obv Planchet Flaw."

What do they mean by this?

Btw, NGC only photographed one side. Not sure if it was a mistake or they were pointing out the flaw.

The reverse image is on the NGC website.

A planchet flaw occurs when the blank (planchet) is damaged or defective before striking. In this case it affected the obverse side only.

On your coin, that looks like the feature which runs up and left from 5:00 on the rim, through the date.

Thank you. Does that mean that the value of the coin is greatly diminished?

That depends on how you define "greatly". If it graded problem-free F12 it would be worth about $150 (I think).

A details grade for a planchet flaw is usually reserved for severe cases and yours doesn't look THAT severe to me. I'd value it at $100 but I don't collect colonials.

It's a really cool piece in my book.

Always nice pieces to have. I would value your coin about $100. Many Colonial and Post Colonial coins and tokens have planchet flaws. These cannot be considered damage and should not be confused with damage. As BH1964 pointed out, these are caused before the planchet is struck. The crude methods involved in the production of these planchets caused many Colonials to have varying degrees of planchet flaws.
Here is a little history of your Washington piece:
