Gosh, it's hard to get one's hands around all these VAMs. Heck, this might not even be one, but it's an interesting variation. I thought ya'll might have some advice on it. Note the doubling of the stars to the lower left of the chin on the coin. Is this anything special?

Looks like it could be a good one possibly a Top100 VAM141? Need a bit more detail on some areas. http://www.vamworld.com/1878-P+VAMsThat's the reference page to start at. You have 1878-P 7 Tailfeather, short arrow nock, parallel arrow feathers, looks like open "O" in God broken "R" in Trust. Nice little coin there!

The 1878 is a facinating year..one of the BEST examples of doubling known to man in my eyes...Due to the process of making the dies, and there process, Extreme examples are easily seen for this year, other years, as they re-invented the wheel and learned from the 1878 series, Doubling is not so pronounced as it is with this year...I am in the middle of moving, and at a quick glance I note the open "o" on god we trust, and the what appears to be a broken "R" in your photo...makes me lean towards VAM 169... Mind you its a quick observation as you show little of the whole coins possibilities...I think others can chime in on this as well..and there Ideas...

I just spent about a 1/2 hour on it. With better photos it would be easier. But with what we have I think Gene has it right on Vam-169 Hot-50 coin

Thanks, folks! I'll check out the VAM 141 and post pics of the areas of interest. If any of you can advise which those areas might be, I'll be happy to provide zooms. But I'm tied up for the next several hours.

Well, well, well! I checked out the VAM 169. Then I cropped some pics for ya'll. Yep. Open O in God, and broken are in Trust. And the Liberty is doubled. Wow. Is this an expensive coin?

I'm not sure of the VAM's value, as I attribute for the joy of the hobby, and to keep building up my skills for vamming, nice close ups, does look like a VAM 169 One thing I would like to point out, as one gets better at understanding these vams, you need less to go on to figure them out....photo's like your first ones are a real challenge which I do enjoy....The important thing to remember when you have less to go by, is the exactness , or precise differences of what pic up points you can see,,,it just takes time,

I checked. It's not particularly expensive. Perhaps a 50% premium over a normal 1878.
Thanks, folks!

It may not have a giant premium, but it is a cool VAM....Those stars really stick out....most other years are no where in comparison in there doubling...... This is Classic doubling at its best!
