I really like that Chance! Does it lock securely? The other problem is I don't keep my personal collection at home and this would not fit in my SDB. Quote:eCrater ... fighting ebay's abuses, one buyer at a time. I haven't yet, but will set up a store soon. BTW, you will have a lot of fun

Do they make a smaller version of this, so the box can be stored in your safe?
The advantage of capsuled coins is that they have tactile aspect to them, when handled individually, without damage to the coin. The real step forward is in finding a way to store the capsules. This is an answer to that problem.

The interior dimensions of the trays are 9 x 11 inches. The box does have a lock on it. You can buy just the stackable trays. They're about 20 dollars each. I got the aluminum case because it basically ended up being free. I paid 105.95 for it as you see it... shipping included. I haven't been able to find just the trays that were cheap enough to get 5 of them to the door for 106.00 I'm going to some creative inlay the cabinet I build to house perhaps 10 of these trays. I picked up an 1876 S Seated Liberty quarter that somebody decided would be cool to solder hardware onto in order to make a lapel pin out of it. The reverse is pretty well trashed, but the obverse is AU. I have some other "coin folder" specimans that have really bad reverses. All of these will make interesting inlays. I think the e-Crater thing could work well. I've been buying and selling on ebay since 1996. They've just gotten too greedy. Chance

You can also buy trays that are partitioned to hold TPG slabs. I believe each drawer can accomodate 6 slabs. There are a myriad of different tray compartment arrangements. I think you can get as many as 80 openings .... lots smaller than 2x2 of course. You can also get them with no partitions at all. I got this because I didn't think the Dansco 7070 was complete enough. This is expandable. Chance

Chance, I was looking at a similar set-up for my slabs, how are the tray separators, not the actual trays? Sturdy or cheap molded (thin)plastic with the fuzzy lining? I really don't like the storage boxes from PCGS (you gotta pull them out to look at them), but that is what they are in now.

They're made of rather thin, vacuum formed plastic with flocking. The 2 x 2s fit really tightly, and if the material was too thick, it wouldn't give enough to allow for a tight fit.
A person who was concerned about the quality of the liners, which will probably crack over time, could denude one and make a mold, and cast them from a soft urethane, or make liners of mahogany, and glue veleveteen to them. Flocking kits dont' cost much.

I may make some wooden trays to place the liners in for stability. I have some of the liners on order to see how well they will do. Thanks!

Use mahogany .... It's long been the top choice for coin cabinets because it's low in tannic acid, which causes the coins to tone. If you're dealing with slabs, I guess that's less of a concern. But airtites aren't 100 percent airtite, so any gassing off of the wood within the cabinet is going to have an effect eventually.

Chance, so you got the case with the trays? If so how the heck did you do that. I have 5 trays so far and have been eyeing up the aluminum case for some time now.

I considered this at length, but concluded by the time I was done moving my collection over it was going to be pretty pricey, but nice. You must have better coins than I have>I fiqured on about 1.00 per coin.I could not fiqure out what the insert was do you use them?
