I usually give it up to a week, file a claim and relist the item.

I give them 7 full days from the end of the auction before I file anything. I will send a reminder on day 4 (I think ebay does also) and then I will send another reminder on day 6 and tell them that I will have to file a claim if it isn't paid within the next day and I tell them to please contact me so we can work it out. I have had to do that twice, but on both occasions the person paid on day 6. I think some people only check it weekly, so I think there is a good chance you will be paid in the next day or 2.

This happens to me all the time. It's true, some people only do their paying once per week and its annoying. I do think you should give them 7 days. I will say that I've had very few people who didn't pay within 3 days, pay eventually. They usually are incompetent or have buyer's remorse. What I do is; after 24 hours...send an invoice, even if they bought 1 item and it was cheap. after 72 hours...write a polite personal message explaining that you want them to pay. after 5 days..."request" their personal info on ebay like their phone number. There's a link for this somewhere. Try to call them. after 7 days....open up an item not paid case. Wait the required 4 days from the point at which you opened the case. Manually close the case, get your seller fees back, relist the item. The customer service reps can help with any of this if you want it. btw, it happened to me once that a guy bought something from me, I think some quarter, then died the very next day before paying. This was determined form my 5-day phone call to a relative, it was morbid.

Keep in mind this is Thanksgiving week too. Maybe the guy went out of town or something. I'm not saying it is a good excuse for not paying right away, but this is one of those weeks where even good buyers might be slow to pay up.

I had a situation very similar and after a few emails and fifteen days, I was paid. I guess when your father fell gravely ill and your at the hospital all the time, ebay is the last thing on your mind. Nonetheless, I sent him a condolonce email and left him positive feedback ;) Yeah, give it a few more days.

I have it happened also on several occasion, and ebay policy is that you can only file a non-paying customer after 7 days, ebay then send the customer a email whether they will comply before issuing you a credit for the fee.

I'm pretty new to selling on ebay but I have set up my account so ebay automatically opens up an unpaid case 4 days after the sale ends and they have not paid, then 4 days later it gets relisted. So far 1 buyer never paid and the item was relisted and another case opened and was paid for.

I hope you do better than me. I'm mostly a buyer and don't sell very often. The buyer had (0) feedback - (I understand that we all started there). I sent several follow ups and after 7 days filed a claim. He finally responded and said he got swept up with the bidding and couldn't pay.

Quote:and ebay policy is that you can only file a non-paying customer after 7 days It's 4 days, not 7. 7 days is probably a better time period to wait, however. Quote: He finally responded and said he got swept up with the bidding and couldn't pay. At least he was honest and gave some kind of response. Most of the customers I've had where paying became an issue, I never hear anything from them at all, before, during, or after, the case is opened.

Quote: Why wouldn't you send an invoice right away? I only send an invoice right away if the transaction requires combined shipping on multiple auction wins. Other than that, the buyer can handle things just fine themselves. I send the invoice 24 hours later for all unpaid transactions as a very low key initial reminder to pay. If I win an auctions for 1 item I don't need to be sent an invoice to pay 2 minutes after the auction ends...and get slightly annoyed when a seller does that. I go about my daily buying and pay it all at the end of the day.

Payment on ebay is the strangest thing. Some folks pay the minute the auction ends. Others wait a day or two. With some, it takes 4 or 5 days. Just my experience.

Funny how fast most buyers pay once they see an ALERT on a case opened...scares the heck out of most of them, and they pay...with no possibility of sellers leaving negatives, this non-payment thing has increased 400% in 2 years...I make sure to say in my listing payment due within 3 days of auction end...99% go through fine, then, evry now and then, a slow payer....sometimes you just have to open a case...sometimes they don't respond, and, all you can really do is block them, and move on. Another trick is to make sure to have the "Pay Immedietly" on a BUY IT NOW, which forces payment. Good luck. Cal
