Ok Folks take it easy on me. I was metal detecting in Virginia for CW relics and found 2 LC. Once back at my truck I cleaned them off and found this. The first redish photo was from the soil. As I used a q-tip and olive oil to remove the dirt it became darker. The rear was face up and took most of the weather. It was plain to see it's a wreath style. So now the questions, did I ruin it? How do I clean, if at all and preserve it? Any help would be great. Thank You Henry

to the CCF. Appears to be a fantastic find. Please show a photo of the reverse of the coin. David

It looks like a nice dig. I'll let the others talk about conservation but congratulations and

Nice find! There's some conservation of coins company that can clean it up for you real nice, but I assume you want to do it yourself?

It would probably cost more than a few bucks to get it conserved by Numismatic Conservation Services, but with such a neat find as that I would personally do it.
Very cool!

Now that's a "WOW" find. If you're not a collector that will afford a nice upgrade to your MD. Also would like to see reverse pics. Is there enough detail on the edge to see if it is Vine & Bars or Lettered Edge?

Thanks for the help so far. I am not a real coin collector but have kept all my MDng coin finds. You talk about conservation services. I went on the NCS site and read up some. So, looking at the photos, do you feel it will clean up and if so how much? Should it be graded and slabbed after? It looks like I have to become a member to submit it? Approimate cost to conserve, grade and slab? Sorry for so many questions. It's my best coin find ever ! Thank You

Wow! Great find! I'd dig half way to China to get one like that!

I'm not sure if NCS can conserve this coin. I would call them and ask. It is an incredible find! Has corrosion so often associated with ground finds. Congratulations! Do you have a picture of the reverse?

BTW, you are still looking at a $1500-2000 coin with the corrosion.

What I hate is you cannot find coins like that out here on the West coast.

Beat me to it Vermontensium, I was just about to complain that finding something like that on the west coast is virtually impossible. That is one of the best non-gold metal detecting coin finds I know of. Congratulations on an amazing find!
