I thought it might be fun to post some of my coins of the Czech Republic - perhaps one a day - until I run out.

I collect coins from there because I got married in Prague (in a 13th century cathedral) so I have some affinity. :)

First up is this one

A-Daily-Czech

Date 1992
Size (mm) 31
Weight (g) 13.0
Metal Silver (0.5000)
Tariff 100 Korun
Ob. Leg. CESKA A SLOVENSKA FEDERATIVNI REPUBLIKA
Ob. Desc. Lion (rampant) within stylised shield
Rev. Leg. LIDICE LEZAKY
Rev. Desc. Cross with loop of barbed wire
References; Krause 161; Novotny 190
Notes: 50th anniversary of annihilation of the villages of Lidice and Lezaky

This coin commemorates an unfortunate and tragic WWII event - but I like the coins simplicity.

Strictly speaking this coin is more representative of Slovakia rather than the Czech Republic, but is is from 1967 when the two countries as of now - were united as Czechoslovakia.

Thanks for sharing that image - it all helps bring the coins to life. It's such a tiny detail too.

Todays coin is this one

He joined the Théâtre des Funambules in Paris (1816), and developed the character of Pierrot into a pale-faced hero and archetypal lover. His work, which culminated in the famous mime-play L'Enfant prodigue, popularized mime in France in the 19th-c, and the vogue for it spread to Britain.

For now my favorite is the first one - not sure why. Maybe because of its simplicity to depict a strong message.
Thanks for sharing those !

Some of the designs are very good - some perhaps a bit abstract for my taste - but I have a good few that I can share.

Like sio many Czech coins the silver content is quite low - but the imagery is very typical of it's place and time

The lion seems to have a different shield on his chest, compared to the previous one.
Is there a particular meaning for this ? (maybe a region ?)

Both shields represent Slovakia but the last one (with patriarchal cross) is pre-Communists and other one (after WW II) with three flames represents camp fires of antifascists guerrillas.
Notice a lion, old with crown and other with the red star.
