1988P LMC- it's definitely off center, but what's with the other strikes on the Obverse.

Legit multi-strikes or a vice grip job etc?

Thanks for any help,
Chuck.

I would have to guess and say its PMD. The letters are clearly backwards. If this was stuck by a die it would have raised letters and they would not be backwards. I would bet it was done with a hydrolic press. A hydrolic press could also bend the cent in that manner and there is a clear line going through the motto from the rim of the reverse coin that was pressed against your coin.

P.S I am not an expert...this just my opinion.

Squeeze job and the original coin is not an off-center either.
Rest in Peace

If this were a legitimate mint error where the coin was struck a second time with another coin, there most likely would not be the flattening effect on the reverse. Just an observation and opinion.

If not off center, is this a MAD with PMD

Thanks,

Chuck.

Chuckster...I bet if you put a LMC on top of that coin...line it up with the indented letters... you will find out the answer...The same pressure that damaged the coins when they were squeezed it together made it look off center. (which it really doens't look like an off center cent would.)

Because the coin used during the vise squeeze were not over each other were not exactly over each other the transfered image looks off center. If it were an off center broadstruck the rim mark wouldn't have transfered on the obverse.
