I recently got this off of ebay and wanted to get your opinions on how it would grade as well as any VAM info, or what to look for on this series. Thanks for any info.

I'd go AU/Slider Unc. Doesn't look like any overdate, the little knob I see on the 0 in the date looks more like a speck of fluff, can you confirm? It's in the wrong spot for one of the TOP100 overdates. 1880-O has a lot of interesting VAM's you might want to have the coin in hand while perusing this page of links; http://www.vamworld.com/1880-O+VAMs

Thanks for having a look! If it could somehow make it to a 62 then it is not a bad $26.00 ebay find. Westcoin, I will have a look tomorrow about the little knob on the 0.

Somewhere in the range of AU-55 to AU-58. Has the wear pattern of a 58 but luster and marks would probably drop it 55.

I'm guessing that the reverse picture is off in terms of how it actually looks. Based on the eagle's breast and lack of apparent luster interruption on the obverse, I'd say this coin is MS-63 or maybe better. Not so sure about the apparent 'rubbing' in the right obverse field.

You were correct westcoin, it was a speck of something on the 0 took it off with a little bit of air.

Thought so, don't see an overdate here, but it's a VAM, which one is your job! Every Morgan dollar is a VAM, the big deal is to find the tough ones that every VAM collector wants.

I want to see that as a 63 but the fuzzy photos leave me seeing an au58
