I saw and bid on this one tonight, a little more expensive, but there something about the patina/toning, whatever you call it. There is a seven day return policy just in case with this seller as well. The CCF consensus was that the last one was cleaned. What do you think about this one? I will keep the better of the two in a side by side comparison.

Thanking you in advance!

I don't see any cleaning problems and color looks original. Nice coin, with a good strike and a grade in the EF-45 range. What may I inquire was the cost?

I like that one. Nice die break on the reverse between 3:00 and 4:00

I like this one much better.. I dont see any issues with it either.. I'd say this one is around AU50.

Attractive coin for the type. This is one of those coins where I've found that's difficult to find. Good purchase.

The color is nice. I think you will be happy when you have it in-hand.

There is just something about the "color" that grabbed me. Usually I prefer the "white" coins, which is probably why I got reeled into the first Twenty Cent Piece (and it was a really good price). Once I get this one in hand I will take some side-by-side images, it should be night and day.

I like this coin a lot. It's quite possible that it was dipped at one time and is retoning, though. It depends on the remaining luster as to how market acceptable the coin is based on the low amount of wear.

I will have to sell the other one shortly, I can't have too much tied up in these "extras".
Rest in Peace

AU-50, it may have been gently dipped/cleaned in the past, but its not detracting.

Great looking coin! I'll join the AU50 crowd and did I mention I love die cracks? Much better than the one I don't have...

This one has similar die crack going around the legends on the back as the first one does, probably from the same die set, just further along in the life of the die.

Unfortunately, if there's little luster it would indicate that was anything but "gently" dipped. If it was improperly cleaned, then it becomes a serious distraction to me because when I go to sell it, I'll have most every buyer tell me what a fool I was for my purchasing mistake and that I'm overpricing it. Such is the coin game!

I would caution any collector that just because a coin has tone/color means it's market acceptable and not end up in a grade company's body bag if they were to attempt to go down that route. Improperly cleaned, non-market acceptable, toned/colorful coins that photograph great can be readily noticeable as a problem in hand.

Trust me on this (as well as listening to others with similar experience); I've been duped more than once.

You can always get lucky and get a bargain by taking a chance with buying a coin sight unseen (which is the basic ebay market because usually the pictures are never that accurate). And, I've been lucky on a very rare occasion.

This coin might be fantastic, but the pictures don't show the luster. If the coin is as dead as the picture shows, then I'd say it would body bag for cleaning.

AU-50 May have been lightly dipped.

It doesn't really look like it has obvious hairlines or anything, and AU-50 detail coins often don't have too much outright luster to begin with. That said, Prethen has a point in that retoning can hide some pretty nasty cleanings as I've experienced in the past...there is also the possibility that this coin has been wiped more than it looks, mostly based on the reverse where color bands 'cling' to the devices.

Technically, this is just from memory, I believe ANA grading standards state that at least 25% luster should be present in a choice XF and 50% in an AU.
