Not the prettiest coin, taken from circulation way back. Would like to know how much it is worth.

Looks harshly cleaned and low grade. $75 or so I'd guess.

I have sold 3 of these in last few years. Two on ebay both fetched over $300 each and one to a coin collecting acquaintance; he was happy to pay $200. I have another two I have found but (surprise, surprise) the ones I have kept for myself are the best ones. This one sold recently for over $350. http://www.ebay.com/itm/AUSTRALIAN-...em4ab1a56849Seasons greetings, Jeff

Jeff, You have mentioned you have come across several of these. Did you find these noodling or did you buy them to start with? Ive been trying for ages and cant find one of the little buggers.

Quote: You have mentioned you have come across several of these. Did you find these noodling or did you buy them to start with? All found noodling. I check, on average, about $500 per week (sometimes more) of mainly 20¢ and 50¢ coins. Have found five wavy 2 but over a period of quite a few years. Also come across incused millennium reasonably regularly (but not frequently). Jeff

this might seem a stupid questions, but here it goes
how can you tell the difference between a normal 1966 20 cent piece compared to a 1966 wavy?

$200 mark for any genuine 66 wavy base in low grade as long as it is genuine is my belief of this coins value. These are an iconic Aussie must have coin for decimal collectors and they are now RARE imho

I'm fascinated by these wavy 1966 20's, and realise the only way I'm to get one is by noodling...I had a close look at the one that was at the recent Sandown coin fair - the Canberra Numisco CHU version - a doddle at $3450 , and saw the curve to the top of the ripple, and narrowing of the 2 Does anyone have pix or info as to what a forgery would look like, or how they go about making one? Obviously as the coins have been in circ for over 45 years, they are going to be pretty worn so a recent fiddle may be obvious, but an older bodgy coin might be harder to suss. I think these coins have been of interest to forgers for some time, so curious to know if anyone has known fiddled wavy 2's

The only attempted Fake I've seen of this coin was on ebay a couple years ago, very crude tooled poor attempt at altering a normal 66 coin, easy to spot.

I doubt there are many forgeries out there, more so altered genuine coins made to look as if they have the wave.
