I think I picked up a 66 kennedy sms, it wasn't labeled as one but the fields are super sharp and the strike in general is really nice.

Regardless of which one it ends up being I think I did alright Should grade at least 63. Spent $5.50

I found a '67 SMS earlier this year in some 40% halves I bought. It stuck out like a sore thumb; almost prooflike. Sounds like you found one, too.

I have no clue on how to determine an SMS Kennedy half dollar ... but I do enjoy the photo of your lovely coin.

Note the slight obverse MAD as well ...

Hoping your photo results in a real answer by a true expert.

I would lay my money on the coin being an SMS.

THIS is an old discussed topic where some people( like I ) stated they could spot a business strike from an SMS struck coin from a distance. Some feel there is NO WAY, I believe this IS an SMS struck coin, just by the prooflike fields and the clarity of the devices, in my opinion, you have one of them, nice find, Mike.....( 40% too :)

I know my 1965-1967 cents though halves in my albums are SMS because I cracked them out and put them there.

However, other than the prooflike surfaces once they hit circulation I'm not sure if you would be able to tell the difference after a while.

SMS, it's close to a proof look, nice coin!

It's amazing the numismatic premium was only $1.50! A couple bucks more and you can buy the whole set.

They are nice looking coins no doubt, but I am not so sure about the SMS identifier. I will try and post my TPG SMS for comparison, and will always be differences in strike quality and such, but I am not feeling the SMS. I have been wrong before...

I think I got sold an UNC 66 as an SMS. It looks different than the other SMS I have. Not too happy about that one...
