Today, my neighbor Dave brought ove a HUGE box for me for a Christmas present. My dad lets me open one present on Christmas Eve, so I decided to openthis one. What do I see inside? A Bounty Hunter Tracker IV! Came with a shovel, the coil, and the detector itself. I need to get some headphone, and a carrying bag. Any suggestions? Any reviews?

Congratulations on the new MD! It's a great hobby that gave me many years of enjoyment. I've been out of it long enough that I can't offer any review of that model, but I started out with a Bounty Hunter BFO back in '72.
Just be patient and in the beginning, dig everything and learn what your machine is telling you. After a while it will become second nature.
Congrats again!

I am really happy for you (and just a wee bit jealous -- LOL). I hope you have hours and hours of fun -- and find some treasures!

I have a gold detector, the GMT but don't have a coin/relic detector. That might change tomorrow. I too have a huge box under the tree. CCF member mmorgan21 and I have been to the beach and parks a few times but, I am using my gold detector not suited for this kind of detecting. I have Koss headphones and really like them! Congrats on the detector!

Nice! I am happy for you man. Wish I had gotten mine when I was a little younger. Not sure how old you are, but sounds like you don't have to worry about sore back and knees for a long while. Good luck and remember that research is the key to great finds, always get permission or make sure it is legal to detect an area, fill all your holes and last but not least.......... Persistence, Patience, Perseverance

Hmmmm---you need expert advice here and I can't tell you what kind of headphones would be best suited for MD but I would look at Radio Shack and I'd start by looking online first. The prices on those things are all over the map. Maybe the store that sells the MD sells the appropriate headphones with the other accesories. Good luck!

yankee1227 - I got the exact same model from my wife for Christmas as well.
ALL of the metal detecting threads say to start in your own yard first. Well, I did. Found a metal clasp for an automobile and a 1979 D penny! Needless to say, that penny will be placed in a lucite holder and proudly displayed at my house. :)
Let me know how you do with yours. Email me sometime.

Thanks for the birthday wish Buddy.
And as soon as the ground un-freezes, I will surely be getting out there.
Come on Spring!

Hey,maybe it works in the snow. A few years ago I found a cell phone while I was shoveling the driveway. LOL Spring seems too far way, doesn't it? Are there any gravel parking lots nearby?

I want one but as far as I know it isn't legal to go metal-detecting anywhere in Illinois. Grrrrrrrrr. I might just get myself a pinpointer for the backyard -- I have found a couple of pennies just digging around -- and about 100 nails. LOL My house is 80 years old so I like to think that maybe...somebody buried a jar of coins? LOL I wish.

California is another socialistic State where you have to be very careful where you detect. We have a huge park in Orange County that the park rangers gave me permission and the beach which I usually do...other than that, watch out.

Too bad.
I mean, I get it that they don't want you digging up wildflowers in the state parks, or make a big mess and just leave it .... but it is annoying not to be able to MD anywhere.
I have heard that people do it anyway and just play dumb if they get caught...gee, officer, I didn't know.... LOL But my sister is judge in the criminal court and I don't think I'd get away with that.
It's too bad because it just seems like it would be fun -- go out, get a little exercise, maybe find buried treasure. LOL

I don't know what the big deal is either. When I detect parks or schools, I dig a perfect plug, get my prize (or junk) , & you can't even see where I dug. I guess a blade of grass is an endangered species in California.
