I'd hang onto any 'good' looking Low Mintage ones:

1993 - 4.9m
1998 - 8.7m
2000 - 5.7m

Stats from the Royal Australian Mint indicate a mintage for 2010 for $2 is 19.779 million.

Those are probably slightly off centre strikes, and there's so many of them, they're worth just $2. I had heaps of them at one stage, sent most to the bank and only kept a few just for curiosity's sake. If I remember correctly, 1999 was a real bad year for them.

cheers Nancy, I think I'll just stick with the smaller coinage as it doesn't take long to have $50 just sitting there..back to the wild they go

About 18 months ago I listed a 1993 $2 coin on ebay (estimated EF+ grade) and a lady in Germany bought it for, I think, about $8.

So any good low mintage coin is probably worth keeping. If you only come across one occasionally then the cost in any one week (or month) is small and total face value of kept coins is irrelevant as long as they are appreciating in value faster than in the bank [not hard to do that nowadays].
Of course the only certain test of this is to try to sell them one day -hindsight is a wonderful tool.
