I dunno, man. That's one ugly coin. I'd be thankful if I were you. Or was I too blunt?

ebay winner has just 11 positive feedbacks- you could end up with the coin anyway if that bidder is a non-paying bidder. That much money and that few transactions- could be a non-paying bidder (or a possible shill?). Coin looks good and I think is graded right. Should cross to ANACs and ANACs might even go to VG on it.

Man, that sucks.
That would have been a great coin to have. And ANACS might even grade it VG8. IF you like it, that's all that matters.

I definitely liked it. I've come close to getting a few of those that are in P-01 and which can only be determined to be a 16 by their diagnostics. This one at least had remnants of the date. I refuse to spend mega-bucks on one of these but I'm determined to get THIS date before I start trying to acquire the rest of the set. I feel like I lost by $50, but who knows, the winner might have been in at much, much more than he actually won it for.

$2980 numismedia for G4. Although the date does show the 6 of 1916, I don't know, I would rather have a TOP III TPG slab versus...PCI? Save some more money and get one that you would not question yourself about! Been there, done that (several times, too many to try and keep count) on the second place deal...as recent as tonight! I will try again...and when I obtain my coin in mind, it will be worth it!

I'd been watching that auction too for a while. IMO, the coin is genuine and graded ok for the details. My problem with it is that the surfaces look overdipped to me. I would say it is a decent buy at that price, since Gs tend to go for $2600-$2800 or so in a top tier slab, but there's a risk that this wouldn't cross with those surfaces. A cleaned G4 is worth much less. It would have been a great buy under 2k. I personally don't think it has a prayer for a VG grade in a top tier slab since a good part of the motto is obliterated and the hole in the bottom loop of the "6" is not present. It may have a shot at a G6, but a G4 is more likely. Still not a bad price though, and not a coin that shows up very often in that grade.

Im going to go with thats about tops for the price I would pay. Coin World places a G4 at 2750. I would have had my max set at 2500.

I also would have set my max at $2500. I would have paid what the winner paid. A coin sure to rise in value.

I had been watching that one since it was listed.
It is hard to tell if the coin has been buffed / whizzed or if it is just the poorly struck 1916 characteristics.
As a plus at least some of the date is recognizable vs. the majority of the worn flat 1916's out their regardless of the name on the holder.
