This doesn't match up to my picture of the popular 1995 DDO, but I see some doubling on the BER in LIBERTY. Any ideas what this is?

First off, great photos. I think it is a deteriorated die and the trails are from that to, not a trail die.

The area on the LIB on LIBERTY is die wear.deteriation. The die flow lines are heavy at the top/bottom of the L.

This is not Machine Doubling. It is the result of a worn die.

I agree with you all. The trails and the doubling are from Die Deterioration.
