I collected stamps when I was a kid and still continue to save stamps from coin trades and correspondence with foreign friends.

This is one of my favourite set of stamps. The one on the left is the Canadian War Memorial in Ottawa, the top stamp is King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (the former Queen Mother). The bottom stamp has and Princess Elizabeth (now Queen Elizabeth)on the left, and Princess Margaret Rose on the right This envelope was mailed from the Royal Train as it toured Canada during the Royal visit in 1939.

WOW I was sure surprised when I found this thread. Didn't know about all the stamp people here. Is there a forum like this for stamp collectors? My daughter received a couple of large books and some stamps from her Uncle Mikey, but we've never done anything with it, don't know anything about it. A forum like this would be nice to join, but then again, more work for me to research my daughters stuff. Boy, I thought I collected too much, she has more than I do and she's only 11 and not interested in stamps or coins, yet(I hope). LeAnn

Too bad there couldn't be a separate informal forum here for those people who have an interest in stamps. Coins and stamps are a natural combo.

I wonder if we could have a seperate Stamp Club in the Coin Club Section, like the Knights of the Coin Table. Maybe Bobby could let us know, if he sees this. (What am I thinking Bobby sees all, knows all. LOL) Steve

Great looking cover Jim. I don't know values as I have usually found most of them to be unusually inexpensive. Even new FDC's are sold at the post office with only a small premium over the value of the stamps affixed to them.

Wow! lots of stamp collectors here. I started on US commemoratives when I was a teenager. I made my first mistake by mounting mint stamps with hinges, which messed them up. Then I found the dark green holders and replaced all the others over time. I agree that now stamp collecting is about having to buy a zillion stamps a year, and in all the different varieties it gets really expensive. And my Dad used to collect entire sheets as well as matched plate block sheets (now those were tough for him to find!) and plate block sets. My commemorative set is complete except for the three Graf Zeps. I never had enough money to by them. I remember when I was in my early 20's there was an auction in San Francisco for the three Graf Zeps in full sheets! They wanted $100,000 for the set of three sheets. That was the ultimate stamp wish I could have on my list that I knew I'd never get. I got posters of them, which was ok. Very cool. I think the older stamps are very cool looking. The newer stamps don't hold as much appeal to me. When my Dad passes away, I'll get all his stamps. He has also collected American Silver Eagles since they came out as well (proofs mainly) and has three big bins full of them. I try to get him to put them in a safe, but he doesn't want to. And he never got the 1995-W set or the ones last year. He said he never new about them from the mint or he would have bought them. Oh well.....

Hello guys!
I'm new into stamp collecting and the stamps that I have are mostly used.. I haven't tried yet buying and just keeping them. I'm just wondering if it's ok to get the stamps from the envelope or not.. because the stamps that I have are cut from their envelope. I just find it bulky keeping those stamps with the envelopes.. Any suggestions?

I inherited from my grandpa an almost complete collection from Luxembourg starting with number 1. Although I am not very much interested into stamps I honour the collection and keep completing it with the new releases. I also added some older issues that were missing so that not it contains every catalogue number in at least one state (cancelled or uncancelled).
