I used to colect chess stamps, chess postcsrds and 1st day covers. I still have nearly all the stamps from the first in 1948 to 1978.

I then lost interest but perhaps when I retire in the not too distant future I will start again.

I just find it bulky keeping those stamps with the envelopes.. Any suggestions?

When you cut them from the envelope make sure you leave a little paper around the stamp, then you can soak them in warm water and the stamps will separate from the envelope paper. At least the stamps you have to moisten your self will. I don't know about those peel and stick stamps.

I used to collect stamps as a kid and I still have about a thousand somewhere in my parents basement along with my rocks, shells, and legos collections.

The only "stamp" that I have in my present day collection is this...

I really like those First Day Covers! I always thought they were very cool looking. Very unusual, and there is more on the envelope that tells some of the story of the stamp as well.

Graceoutcast: Ouch! Poor $2.00 bill. Must have been for a serious bi-centenniel collector.

These were 1st issue bills that you could take to the post office and have it stamped as goes my understanding. There were so many stamped and stamped that it carries a very small premium. However fun to have it though cause it's still kinda unique

I remember on the first day cover for the Elvis stamp, someone sent tons of them to the wrong place. So, they all came back stamped "Return to Sender". I don't remember how much this guy was then selling them for, but he probably made a fortune.
