Jus noting (in favor of continuing stamp discussions) the historical use of stamps AS money, such as when coin hoarding during the Civil War caused stamps to circulate for a time. Postage rates and hoarding are tied into the creation of 3-cent coinage as well.

Hello everyone: I did a search for a forum on stamp collecting, I found one that there were only 42 members, not many posts. It looked like one of those free forums; a friend has a treasure hunting site free forum, and it looked like the same format. We were cleaning out some boxes looking for magazines for my daughter's project. Fred found his stamp collecting book. I am simply amazed. It is a book copyright 1961. He collected all these stamps when he was in boy scouts, and received a merit badge. There is even a page for the merit badge. The book is not full, but there are stamps from almost every country in the book. Some of these countries no longer exist. I wonder what their stamps are worth now. There are several stamps he hinged onto plain paper, since there was no spot for the stamp. All these pages are just shoved into the book. I'm still amazed. We worked on stamps all afternoon as a family. It was great. Is there a book for world stamps or a web site? I only have a 1997 book for US postage stamps. Any help is appreciated. Oh, the book is called: "The New World Wide Postage Stamp Album". It was published by Minkus Publishing, which still is in business, but bought out by someone else. They still have pages for stamp books. LeAnn

FDC 1998 75th anniversary of Canadian Naval ReserveI like this one as my dad spent the 7 war years (1939-1945) on various Corvettes escorting convoys across the North Atlantic. Reverse

Besides stamps, I also like interesting post marks and meterage. This on is on an old DX Confirmation card from the Canadian Broadcasting Company. People across the world would pick up the radio signal then write to the broadcasters to let them know they were being picked up. The Broadcasters would then send out these postcards to confirm it. People would collect these like trading cards. This one came from a listener in Sweden.
