"Rareist" is not a word. This is a scam. Who puts a 50K coin on the carpet to shoot photos?
And why would the available supply be reduced by 50%? I'm fairly certain that anyone who buys a 50K 1 cent piece will not lose it in the couch cushions.

I hope no one dishonest buys this it is clearly worth far more than $50k. Someone should correct him. Maybe he should start it at $150k, that way he isn't getting short sold.
I take it this is the same bloke with the round 50c for $50k a few weeks back?

This is from 1966 Decimal Heritage Set which was issued 2010, here is the link of this set. http://www.australian-threepence.co...age-set.htmlYou can find this set on ebay, price range $900 - $1200. And it was with the limited issue of just 400 set by RAM. 1c 2c and 50c round may well have some of the lowest mintages of all of our decimal releases

In my opinion this is not a rare coin, It was not issued for circulation and is only a manufactured rarity. It was only minted to lure collectors into paying a ridiculous price for them so they have a "Complete set" What rubbish. A complete set is made up of the coins that were issued for circulation and were intended to be used as coinage, Not specially minted coins (only available from the mint)not intended for circulation. If the mint has no need to mint a certain denomination then they should not mint them at all. This has been done many times over in the pre decimal coins. Instead of playing on the fears of collectors that are under the illusion that their set "isn't complete" without these manufactured rarities.

I dont know if it is a scam, I think its more just an uneducated seller. The coin is rarer than a 1930 Penny, but it was never issued for circulation. Also, rarity isn't the sole test of a coins value. Values are determined by supply and demand - a 1909 s VDB Lincoln Cent for example has a mintage of 400,000 and retails for about $1000 in average condition. It attracts that amount because the supply of these coins is far exceed by the demand for them. Added to that, its just another in a long line of collectors coins which are constantly being churned out by the mint. In any case, $50,000 is way too much for this coin.

I think we should have a comment from the seller seeing we are being rather critical. In effect a right of reply. So, I have sent a question via ebay..."Wow, what a story. Now just slip along to any reputable dealer and they may have a full 1966 Decimal heritage set for about $1,500.00. That not only includes one of these 1¢ coins but 2¢, 5¢, 10¢, 20¢ and round 50¢. That's six coins for only a fraction of the price of one. Sell them separately on ebay and you can retire on the proceeds, NOT." I will advise if any reply received. Usually with this type of listing either no reply is forthcoming or the reply is rather abusive. Jeff

http://www.ebay.com/itm/23072060056...fvi=1&_rdc=12012 Maccas puts one of these at $400 value. Can you read the date on the 5¢ photo? Seller is a dealer with a shop in Darwin who sells many proof and UNC coins from broken mint sets on ebay. Usually his prices are reasonable. Maybe he knows something we don't. Jeff
