Where's the dot? Not where it should be. Where do you see one?

Not a great photo but from what little I can make out it looks like something else. Corrected just for visual acuity, not many pixels there. Compare to how tiny a dot on the dot cent really is, second image down on the page. http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins...nt-1920-1936

First, how and where did you get this coin? Those coins were struck but not made into circulation. All of them known to exist are in specimen conditions. At least AU 58, I believe.

is he refering to the dot over the date perhaps?
the "dot" under the date looks more like an indent than a raised "dot" to me, but its hard to say with the pics provided.

I would presume it is a 'die chip'.

From my very very limited knowlage of this coin, the dot is far too big anyway. The dot should be under the date and is quite small. Please correct me if I am wrong

Thanks John1. I had a look and it looks like the same sort of dot used on Aussie pennys as a mintmark. I remember seeing an image of this coin a while back.

Quote: I'll trade you my unicorn for your 1936 dot cent... So, the OP showed us what he thought was a dot cent, and it looks like he was looking for help. Chances are with a little better pictures we can help and educate Joseph on what he has. Do you plan on showing us your unicorn, or are you going to greet all new members this way? I will give you a word of caution to think before you write this time.

Well that precludes it from being a 1936 dot cent Joseph.
Many of these 1936 cents have experienced attempted alternation in this location, it's not unusual to find one with damage in that area.

Not really Joseph, the mostly likely error would be that the dot didn't appear at all because it was partially filled causing a cent to be completely flat there, but it wouldn't pull away and leave a gouge in the coin.
