No, these coins did not make it into normal circulation, just as the British Crowns after 1902 didn't either. Both of the crowns pictured were struck in 'quaternary metal': 50% silver, 40% copper, 5% nickel, 5% zinc.
Actually, the 1949 New Zealand crown was struck to commemmorate a Royal Visit by George V1. The event never happened, he died of lung cancer in 1952. Coincidentally, the date of 1952 on the south African crown, was the last year of the reign of George v1.
Because they did not circulate, these coins are never found in less than VF condition.
I have an example of both of these in about the same condition, they are kept in screw capsules to protect them. Neither of them are highly valuable, and in this condition would be worth about $45.
