Poll Question
This is the year we're supposed to have a new bullion coin as issued by the US Mint, an 1oz. palladium coin with an obverse image of a winged liberty head from the Mercury dime and a reverse with eagle motif from the AIA medal. The Mint has kept mum about this project, so I'm wondering if it'll even happen this year, if ever. Not sure if I would buy either the bullion or collector coin. I have a hard time imagining the Mercury dime blown up to the size of an ASE, and the gray colored metal too much like nickel. So, with that in mind would you buy one for your collection or more for your PM portfolio?

Poll Choices

I voted no. I just don't have any desire to purchase a Palladium coin. Plus, I don't have enough cash to purchase all the silver coins on my list.

I voted no as well. Silver is just more of what I like to look at and plus a lot cheaper! Gold/platinum (at current gold/pt ratiO) would interest me more. Maybe some day if it really catches on but not now since many are not familiar and I have some PM in case of currency/economy collapse and that just doesn't fit in now for me

I voted "maybe" on this one. I like the idea of a Pd coin and would support the US mint making them. I would hope to see 1-oz., 0.5 oz., and 0.25 oz. versions, just as we now have with Au and Pt coins.

I don't see Pd as expensive nickel or silver but as a cheaper version of Pt. I can see that this might not be of interest to anyone with a small amount to invest in PMs but if a person had a larger amount to invest it might make some sense. Instead of buying 10 oz. of gold, for example, a person could buy 25 or so oz. of Pd.

It would be good to see an image of such a Pd coin before buying any of them.

The US Mint is supposedly studying this issue before actually making any coins. I hope that they contacted other countries mints for information on this, rather than reinventing the wheel themselves. That could save quite a lot of time and expense. They might not learn everything they want to know that way but it sure beats taking 2-3 years to figure out what others already know.

I voted yes, I think if the US Mint made a Pd coin it would lead to greater acceptance of Pd as a PM (a lot of people never even heard of Pd) and raise the collectability of all Pd products. Besides, I like the Mercury dime design

I voted yes. I already have a palladium bar, and a Mercury 1 oz coin would be a good addition.

FYI - my palladium bar is only 5 grains

I would buy a palladium coin (though probably not an American one - too much premium) for my element collection, but not for investment.
