picked up this 32-d from ebay this week. It's in an NGC slab with details, but I'm curious what you guys think. I'm planning to break it out of the slab this weekend and take better photos.

AU-53, details. Looks like most of the natural luster that should have remained in the protective areas got stripped off in the previous dipping or whizzing, can't tell what happened to the coin, but it does have that in-between gray luster look of a cleaned coin. But hey, if you're happy with the key, it's all that matters. Good job!

So your thread was the one about buying "details" key dates? I answered that I would only buy non problem coins. But after seeing this one, I would not have a problem owning that coin in my set. nice job!

Thanks, Murrellington. I paid attention to everyone's feedback in that thread, but what really persuaded me were the comments that "details" just goes on the slab. Since I'm putting these in an album, I'm looking at the coin and not the comments on the slab.
The coin in these photos does have a gray "pallor" about it and there are tiny "dings" in the face of the coin. You see them in the eagle's wing (your left, eagle's right) and in front of Washington's lips.
The slab is NGC "XF Details - Improperly Cleaned"

That looks really great. I'm at the point with my BU Wash's where I need to start in on semi-keys and keys. The 1932 and 1935 I have are AU and I'm thinking of sticking with that for the rest of the first page of my DANSCO. Your XF details 32D would fit in nicely though. *Drool.

Sweet looking coin, I too would be proud to have a coin like that in my set! Very nice eye appeal and the clean doesn't take too much away from it, unlike other coins I have seen.

Sweet looking coin details or not. And anyways after 20 years in the Album, it;ll probably pass through a grading service with "Nice original Tonning" comment, LOL!
