I thought Jonah was belched up by the whale, not the other way around.

I have seen allot more designs that I likes allot better than that Israel coin. I like the subject matter but not the actual design. The ASE is a design that was resurrected from an old design that was used almost 100 years ago, so I can see why it probably wasn't even considered as a design of the year award

I think the design of the "champion" coin is pretty common for Israeli coins, they like to stylize. It's not to my taste either. They most likely consider original designs up for the competition, so the ASE's time has long been over.

1. No one asked me or anyone I know which should be the coin of the year 2. So just because Krause Publications says so, does that make is so? 3. I could easily see why our US coins never make that since not many other countries like our Dead Presidents for coins 4. Still no one asked me which ones I thought should win. 5. I suggest that CCF makes a poll for that honor and advertises it as the coin of the year by US.

I was really disappointed in the choice too. There were many other coins much nicer.
I think Krause Publications does it for their own company's gain for international advertising. It does get their name out there!
And they said it "was chosen the best of 10 individual category winners by an international panel of coin experts.", whatever that means, since they run it.

Quote: "was chosen the best.... by an international panel of coin experts.", Not saying I'm one but I think CCF has this covered too.

Many people on their staff came from other countries. Those same people have collected coins for well over 10 days making them numerous past experts. All 10 individual catagory winners came from their pockets prior to leaving their native countries.
